چکیده

As we have seen in Chapter 1, the firing rate defined by a temporal average over many spikes of a single neuron is a concept which works well if the input is constant or changes on a time scale which is slow with respect to the size of the temporal averaging window. Sensory input in a realworld scenario, however, is never constant. Moreover reaction times are often short which indicates that neurons do not have the time for temporal averaging.

Improving the Izhikevich Model Based on Rat Basolateral Amygdala and Hippocampus Neurons, and Recognizing Their Possible Firing Patterns

Introduction: Identifying the potential firing patterns following different brain regions under normal and abnormal conditions increases our understanding of events at the level of neural interactions in the brain. Furthermore, it is important to be capable of modeling the potential neural activities to build precise artificial neural networks. The Izhikevich model is one of the simplest biolog...

(S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine )an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors( induced synaptic potentiation at excitatory synapses on fast spiking GABAergic cells in visual cortex

Introduction: (S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG) is an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors. DHPG-induced synaptic depression of excitatory synapses on hippocampal pyramidal neurons is well known model for synaptic plasticity studies. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of DHPG superfusion on excitatory synapses on pyramidal and fast-spiking GABAergic cel...

Dynamics of interacting finite-sized networks of spiking neurons with adaptation

Finite-sized populations of spiking neurons are fundamental to brain function. Here we present a theory of the dynamics of finite-sized populations of neurons, based on a quasi-renewal description of neurons with adaptation. We derive an integral equation with colored noise that governs the stochastic dynamics of the population activity in response to time-dependent stimulation and calculate th...

Fluctuations and information filtering in coupled populations of spiking neurons with adaptation.

Finite-sized populations of spiking elements are fundamental to brain function but also are used in many areas of physics. Here we present a theory of the dynamics of finite-sized populations of spiking units, based on a quasirenewal description of neurons with adaptation. We derive an integral equation with colored noise that governs the stochastic dynamics of the population activity in respon...

Spiking Patterns of Neocortical L5 Pyramidal Neurons in Vitro Change with Temperature

A subset of pyramidal neurons in layer 5 of the mammalian neocortex can fire action potentials in brief, high-frequency bursts while others fire spikes at regularly spaced intervals. Here we show that individual layer 5 pyramidal neurons in acute slices from mouse primary motor cortex can adopt both regular and burst spiking patterns. During constant current injection at the soma, neurons displ...

A Biologically Plausible Spiking Neuron Model of Fear Conditioning

Reinforcement learning based on rewarding or aversive stimuli is critical to understanding the adaptation of cognitive systems. One of the most basic and well-studied forms of reinforcement learning in mammals is found in fear conditioning. We present a biologically plausible spiking neuron model of mammalian fear conditioning and show that the model is capable of reproducing the results of fou...
